Rooms in Sri Lanka Homes for Tourists

Project of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority to harness existing accommodation facilities in
Sri Lankan Homes for Tourists.


Applications are called from Sri Lankan householders in all parts of the country, particularly in and around tourist resorts and places of tourist attractions, who are willing to provide accommodation for tourists.


Those who comply with the guidelines mentioned below will be considered for registration with Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) under the new scheme called :
‘ HOME STAY UNITS ’

Guidelines for the registration of Home Stay Units

  1. A ‘ Home Stay Unit ’ is a residential dwelling in which rooms are rented to paying guests.
  2. A ‘ Home Stay Unit ’ can be located in any part of the country, particularly in and around tourist resorts and attractions.
  3. Sufficient off-street/ garden parking must be provided.
  4. Each premises must be equipped with adequate and approved fire extinguishers.
  5. Each premises shall maintain a guest register.
  6. Those who are applying for registration as ‘ Home Stay Units ’ should be knowledgeable about the local area, customs and attractions in order to create awareness among the tourists.
  7. There should be clean attached bathrooms with modern sanitation facilities.
  8. Comfortable beds, mattresses and good quality clean linen, writing desk, bed-side tables and lamps should be available.
  9. The owner is required to ensure security of the guest and his belongings.
  10. Electricity, running water supply should be available.
  11. Disposal of garbage, sewerage etc., must be properly managed.
  12. ‘ Home stay Unit ’ logo of the SLTDA should be prominently displayed at the main entrance of the dwelling.
