SLTDA Services

The SLTDA is dedicated to seeing Sri Lanka as the foremost tourism destination in Asia and is committed to working towards pleasing their customers (domestic and international) and developing loyalty.

In order to achieve this, SLTDA will

  • Promote sustainable development of tourism as a key sector of the economy for the economic and social well being of the people.
  • Promote and reposition Sri Lanka in all relevant international markets and market segments.
  • Work towards delighting visitors (domestic and international) through effective and quality facilitation of access, accommodation and other services.
  • Utilize new info-technology tools to enhance the effectiveness of tourism marketing and operations.
  • Be catalytic in rallying the tourism industry to work as a team.
  • Generate high yield, income, and employment and contribute to regional development.
  • Work in close collaboration with all stakeholder sectors such as sports, arts, crafts, culture, environment, investment, trade, the media and communities.

  1. Research & International Affairs
  2. Tourism Research
    Regularly, the SLTDA publishes a monthly statistical bulletin and an Annual Statistical Report which indicates the performance of Sri Lanka Tourism in terms of tourist arrivals, foreign exchange earnings, creation of employment opportunities and hotel occupancy rates.     International Affairs
    SLTDA has attended many overseas meetings to promote Sri Lanka and to gather information regarding current market trends of international tourism and to exchange ideas among the UNWTO member countries on tourism.   3. Tourism Marketing & Promotion
  4. A tactical promotional campaign with the assistance of the private sector of the travel trade was implemented to create confidence among the visitors to Sri Lanka. The tactical campaign included special packages, domestic tourism campaign, working with Sri Lanka Diaspora (Bring a friend home), advertising, media releases, etc. SLTDA operates overseas marketing offices in U.K, Germany and France and a marketing representative company (TRAC) in India to carryout the promotional activities. In all other markets the promotional activities are carried out from the Head office in Colombo or with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Foreign Mission in the respective overseas countries.

  5. Tourism Product Development
  6. The Tourism Board has started development work in the Kalpitiya, Dedduwa Lake, Bentota, Loggal and Rathkinda areas. Plans are underway to begin work in the East Coast.
  7. Corporate Services
  8. The establishments and individuals providing services to tourists are registered and licensed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
  9. Si Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management
  10. The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management conducted the following courses during the year 2007 in Colombo and the Satellite Schools in Kandy, Anuradhapura, Bandarawela and Matara respectively as given below.

  12. A separate Division, namely Community Relations & Domestic Tourism Division was set up in January 2007, and activities carried out include
