Mr. Upali De Silva

Mr. Upali De Silva joined the then Tourist Board as an assistant Director trade Standards in 1988 and was promoted as Director trade Standards in 2001. He holds a diploma in Hotel management and catering and a specialized Diploma from Ceylon Hotel School and Post graduate Diploma in Hotel Management from International school of Tourism Science Rome.

Standards & Quality Assurance division headed by him is mainly responsible for quality assurance, regulation and facilitation of all tourism stakeholders.
Prior to joining SLTDA he served in the hotel industry for almost 12 years.

Mr.Upali with his experience in the hotel industry, initiated an event to promote International Cuisine annually, namely, the “ World Spice Food Festival ” with the participation of international signature chefs. In addition, as a person who does not hesitate to give thought to “ creativity and innovation ”,
he is also being involved in the promotion of certain national events; the launching of the first signature cocktail called “ Sri Lanka Sunrise ”,

And the first ever mobile service which was created in order to facilitate all licensees and prospective service providers. He has also initiated a project to create a data base of informal sector of tourism stake holders in the entire island in an attempt to wooing in to the main stream.

Part of the divisional work includes instrumental revamping and introducing new codes/criteria on different  products for e.g.- boutique, hotel villas, adventure sports, apartments, hotels, and  ayurveda. Meantime, the division is in the process
of formulating criteria for niche products as well.

He strongly believes that behind his every success is his supportive staff that consists of a good team of true professionals who have done an excellent job with regard to regulation and formulation and he is proud of them.
