Mr.Udana Wickramasinghe

Mr.Udana Wickramasinghe joined SLTB in April 2007 as the Director ICT [Information Communication Technology] after completing his MBA in Melbourne, Australia. A past student of Trinity College-Kandy, he started his career in the banking sector and moved onto IT after graduating in England with the intention of pursuing a more evolving and challenging career.

Currently with a team of 12 employees including both permanent staff as well as outsourced, the ICT division was created to improve the ICT infrastructure at SLTDA as well as of other tourism related agencies. According to Mr. Udana, the sole objective of the division is to provide “state of the art” ICT facilities to the internal customer not leaving behind the external customer. Further, his department is actively participating in the volunteers’ project not only to provide industry level exposure but also to encourage especially the youth to engage in developing the tourism sector in Sri Lanka while promoting an open and knowledge sharing culture.

5 main projects are to be implemented by the ICT division in the foreseeable period.

• Destination Management System [DMS] is one of the main projects which once implemented successfully, will provide an online platform for tourism service providers to interact with their customers in an effective and efficient manner leading to better customer relationship management.
• The ICT division, as part of its main objectives, is presently undertaking work in automating the Finance, Human Resources and Research departments not only to increase the accuracy of data but also the total quality of work in each department.
• Meantime, together with Infoshare, an international non-governmental organization, and under Mr. Udana’s guidance, the dedicated and hard working department staff is also involved on a training programme on ICT Hotel Management catering the informal sector. The main intension of this programme is to acknowledge the small and medium hotels of the benefits of using IT to provide a better quality service for their local and international customers in a cost-effective way.

Finally, not to forget that according to Mr. Udana's secretary “ everybody's expecting a good service from us and our responsibility is to attend to everyone in the same manner ”.
